Dear Colleagues, I just received the morning update from Steve Criswell. Since he will be delayed from sending out a message, I am providing a brief summary. The fire remains behind the Jack Mountain/Josephine Canyon line, and the opinion that it may be possible to stop the fire at that point is becoming more widespread. There was no significant rainfall on Mt. Hopkins last night, but the forecast is now for weak monsoon activity for the next few days rather than for dryer air. The fire fighters intend to set a back fire near Madera Canyon today. A large contingent of fire fighters remain on Mt. Hopkins to protect the observatories.
