Many of you are aware that a significant forest fire is burning near our facilities on Mt. Hopkins. Based on phone conversations Dan Fabricant had with Steve Criswell this morning, the "Florida" fire continues to spread down the western flank of Mt. Wrightson. The management of the fire has been upgraded to a Level 1 team. The fire crews are attempting to create a fireline from Madera Canyon up through Josephine Saddle and down the other side. This fireline is shown on the Forest Service map available at the link below. Today Steve Criswell, Emilio Falco, and Dennis Smith are going up the mountain to fill dewars and assess the situation. It is difficult to predict what the fire is going to do. At this point our facilities are still in danger. We have created a web page on which we have posted some photos and links to information. We will post further updates on this page as they become available. http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/cfa/oir/FLWO/FloridaFire/
