Here are instructions for shutting down the SONIC at the end of a night. 1993/03/10 1. Finish observations and darks. In command window, type "bye" (or type "exit" twice). 2. Put your data on tape. The program 'backup' provides a convenient way to make a tar tape, while a fits tape is easily made with 'fitsarchive'. Label the tape. 3. Put telescope to zenith and close mirror cover. Set dome to "home." 4. Close dome. 5. Turn off guider TV (2 switches in dome). 6. Turn SONIC electronics off with switch on power supply. 7. Set front panel switch on SONIC electronics to "DIP frame" and two switches on rear of pc board up. 8. When dome is closed, unplug dome power cable. 9. Turn off telescope according to instructions. (Briefly, turn off switches on telescope console in reverse order, leaving 1 and 3 on.) 10. Turn off TV monitors. Turn down contrast on Mac monitor and PC monitor. 11. If a full shutdown is needed, type 'killirholdtemp' in any shell window. (Normally the temperature control program can be left running.) 12. Kill the X server and log out of the Sun (optional). The following applies on the last night of the run only. 13. Shut off the cooler. Unplug VacIon pump and heater power.
