CCD Readout is Slow or Frozen or Plain Bad

If the CCD is reading out very slowly, with only a few percent every 20 seconds or so (as opposed to the normal time of 30 seconds to readout the whole chip when in 2x2 binning mode), OR, if the CCD is frozen altogether, OR, if data looks screwed up (out of sync) do the following.

  • In the Rtshell, type abort; stop; clear
  • Now exit the Realtime system (type bye).
  • Turn off the CCD power at the telescope. Wait 10 seconds and turn it back on.
  • Turn off the FIFO in the computer room (small aluminum box with the LED readout next to the 48" computer). Wait 10 seconds and turn it back on.
  • Startup Realtime system again (type go4 or gonccd).

If problem persists, do the following.

  • In the Rtshell, type abort; stop; clear
  • Now exit the Realtime system (type bye).
  • Turn off the CCD power at the telescope.
  • Type godown -h in a Unix window to stop the Sun computer..
  • Turn off the CCD power at the telescope.
  • Turn off the FIFO in the computer room (small aluminum box with the LED readout next to the 48" computer).
  • Turn off the power to the Sun.
  • Wait 10 seconds.
  • Turn on Computer.
  • Turn on FIFO.
  • Turn on CCD power at telescope.
  • Login and restart Realtime system.
